Arval partners with Dutch used-car platform Bynco

Arval Netherlands is teaming up with Bynco, the country’s largest online platform for used cars. The lease company, which has 40,000 vehicles in portfolio in the Netherlands, will use the platform as an outlet to resell its ex-lease vehicles nationwide.

On average, Arval has about 750 vehicles come off contract in the Netherlands each month. At present, about three quarters of those are sold via B2B channels, including via the Motortrade auction platform.

Part of the ex-lease stock is already offered via online B2C channels, such as Autoscout, Autotrack and Autowereld. The addition of Bynco is testament to Arval’s aim to intensify its remarketing effort via the private channel.

That’s not just a matter of quick wins – B2C sales often generate a bigger margin – but also of strategy: Arval is convinced the B2C channel will become increasingly important in future.

However, where other lessors develop proprietary B2C channels (e.g. LeasePlan and its subsidiary CarNext), Arval for now is opting to outsource its online remarketing effort, via Bynco.

That platform was set up two years ago by AutoBinck Group, initially only to resell the group’s own used vehicles. Last November, it started offering third-party vehicles. That business is expanding fast. Arval is Bynco’s 10th partner.

In all, sales figures are still relatively small: last year, Bynco sold 150 used vehicles. For this year, the ambition is 80 units per month, or just under 1,000 vehicles in total. Bynco currently has about 1,200 vehicles in stock. That figure is expected to grow to about 2,000 units by September.
