Share Now increases EVs to quarter of fleet

Share Now is to increase the number of EVs in its European fleet to 4,000 by year's end. That means just over a quarter (26%) of its European total will be fully electric. 

Share Now is the joint shared-mobility operation that resulted from the merger, earlier this year, of Daimler's car2go and BMW's DriveNow.

Leading provider
Both OEMs also merged other four other mobility business units: Reach Now (multimodal services), Charge Now (charging), Free Now (taxi ride-hailing), and Park Now (parking). Share Now presents itself as the world's leading provider of free-floating car sharing. 

For the rest of this year, electrification is a major target, the company says. At the moment, only 3,200 of the company's 15,240 cars are fully electric. That's just over 20%. “Our goal is to have a quarter of our fleet electric in Europe by the end of the year”, says Olivier Reppert, CEO of Share Now. 

Fully-electric
Already by this summer, Share Now will add almost 800 Smart EQ for various European locations. At present, Share Now already operates four fully-electric locations in Europe: Madrid (850 vehicles), Stuttgart (500), Paris (400) and Amsterdam (350). 

Eleven locations will be partially-electric. Here, Share Now will offer the BMW i3, but also continue to offer combustion-engine vehicles: Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Brussels, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Milan, the Rhineland and Vienna. 

Last year, car2go and DriveNow customers covered around 29 million kilometres in EVs. Since the merger into Share Now, that figure has increased to 121 million kilometres already. Every fifth trip in a Share Now vehicle is via EV.
