Renault brings EV-sharer Zity to Paris

In March, Groupe Renault and Ferrovial will launch Zity, a free-floating EV-sharing service, in Paris. Zity will have an initial fleet of 500 pure-electric Renault Zoe cars in the French capital.

It’s a good time for car-sharing in Paris: 20% if the French capital’s inhabitants are already using it. And Zity has been road-tested: the service has been running successfully in Madrid since 2017. 

Many advantages
Bringing it to Paris further strengthens the cooperation between Renault and Ferrovial, a leading global operator of infrastructure and provider of urban services. 

“Zity has many advantages, including flexible booking times and vehicle availability, in the right place and at the right time, thanks to a high-performance app,” says Gilles Normand, Groupe Renault SVP for EVs and Mobility Services.

“Providing sustainable mobility solutions to citizens is a priority in the battle against climate change challenges,” adds Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.

Flexible mobility
Via an app, Zity users can spot the nearest Zoe and even check whether it has child seats, if they need them. The app opens the car, which can be returned at any above-ground public parking space within Paris. 

By offering 24/7 access to free-floating Renault Zoes, Zity offers flexible mobility close to that of owning a car of one’s own. 

Zity does not require registration or subscription fees, but charges competitive rates per minute, per fixed period (4, 8 or 24 hours), or as a time credit. A ‘stand-by option’ makes it possible to park the car for a short time at a preferential cost. 

“Service of reference”
Vehicles are only offered if they have a certain battery level and can be intelligently redeployed to better fit demand.

Following the pilot in Madrid and the extension of the service to Paris, Zity may soon become available in other cities. Renault would like it to become the “EV-sharing service of reference” throughout Europe, and perhaps beyond.
