Bird offers monthly scooter rental

Ready to scooter, but not into the daily hunt? Bird now offers a monthly scooter rental for a flat rate of $24.99 in Barcelona and San Francisco.

Scooters are the micromobility mode of the moment, as they are agile, produce zero emission, skip traffic congestion, and are cheap in operation. But having to rely on their availability for your daily commute can be a bit of a hassle. That's why Bird is now offering – not unlike the traditional car leasing or rental packages – a monthly offer at a flat rate of $24.99. In addition, Bird will deliver and pick-up the scooter at your door.

San Francisco & Barcelona

At this moment the service will be launched in San Francisco and Barcelona only. If it turns out well, Bird aims to expand to other markets. Not coincidently the service will be launched in San Francisco where only Scoot and Skip are allowed to offer dockless e-scooters. With the launch of the monthly rental, Bird can skip the permission process entirely.

How to scooter

Convinced to scooter? Here is how it works: (1) download the Bird app, (2) enter your desired delivery point, whether at work or at home or anywhere else, (3) Bird will deliver a personal scooter, charger, and lock, (4) at the end of the rental period, Bird will pick up the scooter, charger and lock again from your desired location.

One week vs one month

Would it financially make sense to go for a monthly rental? Definitely if you were using a Bird scooter for your daily commute! Without the daily rental, you pay $1 to unlock the scooter, and another 10 to 30 cents per minute you ride it. So if you would perform your daily commute with a Bird scooter, you would pay at least 2 times $1, plus the fee per minute, let’s say for 15 minutes, resulting in at least an additional $1.5 to $4.5 per ride, resulting in a daily total of $3.5 to $6.5, which means that after one 5-day workweek, you already pass the monthly rental fee of $24.99.

Free to scooter

Add the convenience of having your Bird available whenever you want, not having to perform the payment per ride, nor the location, and booking process per ride, you might not only save money, but time as well. Moreover, if you as a fleet manager would like to add scooter sharing to your fleet, it might save a lot of hassle to have your personalised Bird fleet at the company available for your employees rather than having to send them out for Bird hunting for every commute.
