Skoda tests EV charging infrastructure at HQ

VW's Czech subsidiary is preparing itself and its surroundings for the requirements of electromobility. In 2018, Skoda invested €3.4 million in the expansion of its internal electrical infrastructure at its headquarters in Mladá Boleslav.

Extensive tests are being carried out using more than 300 charging points in order to further optimize the charging infrastructure and charging times. The first electric vehicles of the brand will be launched in about a year from now.

Electrification strategy

As a brand belonging to the VW group, Skoda will benefit from the massive investments made by its parent in the field of e-mobility. VW is launching its I.D. range at the end of this year, bringing EVs closer to the masses. Much is expected from the Neo, a Golf-sized car that is to become the first affordable EV with a decent range.

Skoda presented the Vision E concept in 2017, a sporty coupé-crossover that heralds the brand's first electric model. It will be built in the Czech Republic from 2020. By 2025, the brand wants to have 5 full-electric cars in its line-up.

Later this year, the facelifted Superb will become the first plug-in hybrid model by Skoda. It will carry over the technology used by the recently revamped VW Passat, meaning a 1.4 TSI petrol engine combined with bigger batteries for 55 km of WLTP e-range.
