New Land Rover Defender: the rebirth of an icon

Its unmistakable silhouette is familiar yet completely new. The New Land Rover Defender looks tough and is tough, but it was designed with purpose and engineered to excite. With mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, it has efficiency at its heart. A range of versatile and durable commercial models will follow next year.

The New Defender features permanent four-wheel drive, a twin-speed automatic gearbox, a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg and a maximum static roof load of 300kg, making it the perfect companion for overland adventures.

It is also the first Land Rover to feature Configurable Terrain Response, allowing drivers to fine-tune a range of settings to suit the conditions more precisely than ever before.

The definition of durability

Its lightweight aluminium monocoque construction gives the New Land Rover the stiffest body structure Land Rover has ever produced, providing the perfect foundations for the fully independent air or coil sprung suspension.

The New Defender is still the champion of those with courage to provide help where others dare not or cannot go. Land Rover continues its long-term humanitarian partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, with the Defender at the heart of it.

MHEV & PHEV

From launch, the New Land Rover Defender is electrified. In the mild-hybrid version, an always-on 48V system harvests energy while driving, saving 6g of CO2 per km. In late 2020, a plug-in hybrid variant will be launched.

The petrol line-up comprises a four-cylinder P300 and a powerful six-cylinder P400 with efficient mild-hybrid technology. Customers can also opt for a pair of four-cylinder diesels, the D200 and the more powerful D240, both of which deliver fuel economy of 37.2mpg or 7.6l/100km and CO2 emissions of 199g/km (NEDC equivalent).

21st century technology

The New Defender is as technologically advanced as it is durable, introducing Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system. By downloading data while customers are asleep at home or in far-flung locations, the New Defender will get better with age. Indeed, over-the-air software updates cascade down to the vehicle immediately, without delay and with no need to visit a dealer.

Body styles

The New Defender 110 is available as a 5-, 6- or 7-seater, in four distinct Accessory Packs. The shorter New Defender 90 is available with 5 or 6 seats. A range of versatile and durable commercial models in the 90 and 110 body styles will be introduced next year.
